Here’s the story behind the huge new tiled mural on Bandon Road

It’s been a year in the making.
Local artist Peter Martin has just unveiled the latest mural in his collection, featuring a touching nod to the Lough in Cork.
Peter, who is also the hand behind the stunning ‘Love Birds’ mural on Grattan Street as well as ‘Rising to the Bait’ on the Coal Quay, revealed his new tiled piece this week on Bandon Road, also sharing the inspiration behind it.
“Aisling Gheal – A Bright Vision,” began Peter on Instagram.
“The artwork shows a young girl gazing at a sky over the Lough. It represents the girl’s vision of the future as she watches a gaggle [sic] of geese flying off on a journey, not knowing where it may take them.
“She too has a journey ahead of her with hopes and [sic] dreams of the future.”

Some of the work is hand-painted and glazed, but much of it is printed from an acrylic ink painting. Artist Tony Byrne cut and installed the piece on the Bandon Road site.
“The girl is also my niece so hopefully she can bring her friends up to look at the artwork when she’s a bit older,” he added.
