Gaia, a breathtaking floating globe, is coming to Cork. Here’s when you can visit

Brought to you by Cork Midsummer Festival.
When was the last time you were truly mesmerised?
If you’d quite fancy experiencing that childlike sense of wonder once again, an upcoming showstopper in the Cork Midsummer Festival calendar could be just the thing to enthrall even the most world-weary of souls.
Gaia, a breathtaking seven-metre floating globe representing the fragility and beauty of our planet, is coming to Cork.
The eerily beautiful floating installation is by Luke Jerram, who is known worldwide for his large-scale public artworks. It will be turning gently at St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh from June 15th to 26th, 2022, where you can go in and see it completely free of charge, thanks to long time supporters of Cobh and Cobh Ramblers sponsors Garry and Anne Wilson of Belvelly Castle and Bishop William Crean who worked together to bring the piece to the seaside town.

Named for Gaia, the personification of the Earth in Greek mythology, the installation features spectacularly high-resolution imagery of the Earth’s surface provided by NASA, providing the opportunity to see our planet closer to its true scale, in three dimensions.
The whole magical thing is set to a specially made composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones.
Gaia will be at St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh from Monday to Friday, 11am to 9pm, Saturday 11am to 5.30pm; 7pm – 9pm and Sunday, 2pm – 7pm from June 15th to 26th, 2022. Find out more here.
