Fans describe this MMA training programme as ‘life-changing’ (and anyone can do it)

Feeling stuck?
Whether you’re bored of your hum-drum gym routine or you’ve never gotten around to starting one, there’s nothing like a new challenge to get your motivation fired up – especially as the evenings get darker.
If you’re craving a lifestyle change, something to really shake up your energy and focus your goals, both in fitness and in life, there’s a unique programme currently enrolling at SBG Gym at Northpoint Business Park on the New Mallow Road.
It’s the only place in Cork where you can take the TrainAlta MMA Training Programme – a 20-week, no holds barred mental and physical shake-up that is specifically designed for all ages and abilities – even if you have never set foot in a gym.
It won’t be easy, but if it’s a life-changing experience you’re after, this is where you’ll find it – and it’s all kicking off on October 24th.
The programme requires participants to dig deep and show up for daily 6am training sessions – even if it’s dark and raining, even if you’re still sore from yesterday’s workout.
But like any challenge that pushes you to be the best version of yourself, the rewards are great – and they far outstretch the obvious benefits like weight loss and improved cardiovascular health.
In fact, it could lead to an entirely new career; former TrainAlta participant Kerry Ann Vernon is now the Irish bantamweight champion and the #10th-ranked Women’s Amateur MMA fighter in the United Kingdom & Ireland.
Here’s what you can expect from the TrainAlta Cork Programme:
- BASE (Weeks 1- 6): Improve your fitness and strength as you learn the basic foundations and movements of MMA. Just keep showing up.
- BUILD (WEEKS 7-13): Build confidence as your skills grow and you’re introduced to light contact and technical drills. Perseverance pays off.
- BELIEVE: Sharpen your mental game and back yourself. At the end, you’ll have the option to test your new skills and compete in an amateur MMA match.
Everything you need to transform your fitness, mindset, and future is included in the TrainAlta package. As well as a custom nutrition plan, you’ll be equipped with premium gear to get you fighting fit, from a pair of 16oz boxing gloves and cotton hand wraps, to 8oz MMA gloves, a pair of shin guards, and a mouthguard.
You’ll also receive one Premium Alta Uniform to train and compete in – all of which are available in sizes XS to 3XL.
SBG head coach John Kavanagh, who trains Conor McGregor and a host of other big-name UFC stars, gives a rundown of the programme here:
