‘Dry and bright with sunny spells’ – The New Year weather is the boost we needed today

We’ll take it.
It’s been a long twelve months, but if you’re looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, you might find it in the New Year’s Day weather forecast.
After a snowy start in many parts of Cork this morning, tomorrow looks like another solid opportunity for a frosty walk (within 5km from home of course) with Met Éireann predicting a “mostly dry” day and bright sunny spells, with highs of just 3 to 5 degrees.
The weekend will be cold and mostly dry, with widespread frost each night.
What’s it like for the weekend?
On Friday night it will turn “very cold in clear spells with a widespread frost” but it will remain dry in most areas, with lows of +1 to -3 degrees in a light northwest breeze.

You can expect a mix of bright spells and scattered showers – the showers mostly of rain but occasionally wintry on high ground – on Saturday. Another cold day with highs of just 2 to 5 degrees in a light northerly breeze.
According to forecasters, it will be “very cold Saturday night with a widespread sharp frost. Dry and clear in most areas with a few showers affecting coastal regions. Lows of +1 degrees near coasts to -4 degrees inland, in light northerly winds.”
