Don’t panic shop: Cork Zero Waste has compiled a list of clever last-minute gifts

It’s almost Christmas.
Let’s face it, if you don’t have your gifts bought now the panic might be starting to set in.
Don’t fear though, the Cork Zero Waste crew has been busy listing some fantastic last-minute zero-waste present ideas on their Instagram to ensure your Christmas remains eco-friendly and stress-free.
Non-Material Gift Ideas:
Treat your loved ones to experiences like vouchers for restaurants (shoutout to The Viaduct donating €5 to Down Syndrome Ireland with every purchase of €100 or more), spa days, and workshops. You can gift a Benchspace class like how to make your own silver bangle on January 19th.
Gift tickets for concerts, shows, gigs (Live At The Marquee already has nine dates lined up for next year), sports events, or cinema outings. The Regal Cinema in Youghal offers an easy-to-use, monitorable, and reloadable gift card.

Opt for subscriptions to magazines, streaming services, or memberships. The Running Buddy app, created by Cork-based physiotherapist Patrick Carroll, has a special Christmas offer of €108 for an annual subscription. Or gift a €69 early-bird subscription for the 2024 Championship with a GAA Go streaming service.
Second-Hand Gems:
Explore Vibes & Scribes’ second-hand library at 21 Lavitt’s Quay for a pre-loved book or dive into Cork’s charity shops for unique finds. Check out the Olio App, which connects you with locals for item sharing and reducing waste.

Homemade Happiness:
Embrace your crafty side with homemade gifts. From candle-making and crochet to culinary delights like cakes, cookies, preserves, and pickles, personal touches make for heartfelt presents.
Cork Zero Waste has great pickle and pesto recipes on its website. Cork-based food and lifestyle content creator Cliona O’Connor also has some yummy recipes on her Instagram, such as her showstopping Mince Pie Star.

Gifts That Give Back:
Spread the love by donating to a worthy cause on behalf of a loved one. There are some great local charities like Cork Penny Dinners, Cork Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG), and the Good Shepherd, which provides emergency accommodation for women and children. There are also lots of charities assisting those in Gaza and the West Bank like the Irish Red Cross, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
All great tips from Cork Zero Waste. Check out their post on last-minute zero-waste present ideas below. Happy gifting!
