‘Do Not Swim’ orders remain in place for three popular Cork beaches today

Might be wise to skip your usual dip for now.
Cork County Council has issued a ‘Do Not Swim’ notice for three popular beaches due to poor water quality caused by the recent heavy rain.
According to a Council spokesperson, bathing water quality samples taken at Fountainstown, Garryvoe and Sandycove beaches on May 25th have reported poor water quality with elevated levels of bacteria.
“Following consultation with the HSE a prohibition notice advising “Do Not Swim” has been put in place. It is thought the poor water quality is related to the recent sustained rainfall event.” the County Council explained.
Samples were taken again yesterday and the situation will be reviewed with the HSE in the coming days, as soon as results are available.
