Cork florists sell out of Valentine’s roses as locals prove Leeside is for lovers

Cork’s loved-up ladies and gents have been buying up Valentine’s blooms by the bouquet this year, with a number of local florists experiencing epic demand.
By the close of business yesterday evening, Winthrop Arcade florists The Best of Buds declared they were “almost sold out” of their stunning red rose stuffed hat boxes and luxurious arrangements.

Over on Douglas Street, Cork Flower Studio also experienced a sell-out, while Kinsale’s Howe Hill Flowers harvested extra hellebore flowers and opened up further order slots due to the demand.
At Shandon Flowers, the team opened their studio on Sunday to handle all the extra business, while The Flowersmith Studio in Glanmire stopped taking orders for their stunning blooms, delivered in bundles with mouthwatering cupcakes from Buns and Roses, last week.

According to data released by AIB, spending on flowers increases a whopping 295 percent on Valentine’s Day, with the majority of florist transactions between 4pm-6pm.
According to 1.7m debit and credit card transactions made in-store and online on February 14th, 2022, men spent 65 percent more on Valentine’s Day compared with the same day the previous week, while women spent 20 percent more.
Spending in florists by men increased by 492 percent and the average spend per transaction in florists was around €50.
