Can’t make the beach? A new city sauna and cold plunge is now open in Blackrock

It’s the perfect mates date.
And if you like to catch up with friends while sweating out the week’s toxins, an outdoor city sauna is the ideal spot to meet.
Suaimhneas Saunas opened this summer in Blackrock, with a large traditional sauna and three individual cold plunge pools to help guests cool down afterwards.
If you’re new to the world of wellness, saunas promote relaxation by triggering the release of endorphins, reducing stress, and alleviating anxiety. Frequent cold exposure has been shown to help with mood, sleep, willpower, sports performance, and immune system response.
Brendan Maloney left a decade-long career as a car salesman to set up the new venture:
“I decided I wanted to try something different and work for myself (with the backing of my girlfriend) and after using a few of the sauna swim offerings close to the sea and seeing the benefits and studying research on hot and cold therapy I wanted to do something similar,” he told Yay Cork.

Located behind Murphy’s Foodstore on the Blackrock Road, the sauna can accommodate up to ten people at once, with three cold plunge pools waiting outside for the bravest to cool off in.
“I decided to set up in Blackrock and make it more accessible to people who don’t have cars to travel to the sea. I couldn’t be happier with the response so far.” Brendan added.
A 30-minute shared session is just €10 including the plunge pool and private 30-minute sessions for up to ten people are €75 and already proving popular with local sports teams.
Suaimhneas Sauna is open for individual bookings from Thursday to Saturday from 6.30am to 4pm. Private group bookings can be made any day of the week via the booking link.
