Birdman will NOT be fined for feeding pigeons at Daunt Square

Good news! Depending on how you feel about pigeons.
Cork City icon Frankie Flaherty, known to some as ‘the Birdman of Daunt Square,’ was yesterday asked if he could desist from feeding the pigeons and relocate to a park.
It emerged yesterday that a Cork City Council official had asked Mr. Flaherty to move along following a complaint made against him regarding the mess that the pigeons tend to leave behind.
Speaking to Red FM yesterday, Mr. Flaherty said: “One of the wardens came along to me and he said “I know that you enjoy doing this, but you have to stop doing this, because a complaint has come in from one of the shops.” Mr. Flaherty confirmed that the warden was very nice about the whole thing.
Mr. Flaherty said that he only does it for about 10-15 minutes a day and that other people like to come and watch him interact with the pigeons.

The council has since issued a statement confirming that Mr. Flaherty will not be fined should he choose to remain at Daunt Square.
Cork City Council said that “a gentleman who likes to feed the birds in the area was asked by a member of Cork City Council staff if he would consider feeding the birds in another site, eg Bishop Lucey Park, because of the complaints.
“He was not told he would be fined and Cork City Council will not be issuing a litter fine to this gentleman.”
