Beat the January blues with a secret gig or two in this cosy Kinsale Bookshop

January can be a long, ‘auld dreary month.
And while a well-deserved rest is badly needed after the wild nights out over the holiday season, sometimes we can take it to the extremes and not leave the house at all, at all.
Prim’s Bookshop & Bibliotherapy in Kinsale is making sure we don’t get stuck in a rut after the New Year by hosting Book’d, an exciting line-up of young Irish musical talent. The acts will be served alongside their delicious hot chocolates and cappuccinos in the cosy bookshop during January and February.
The dog-friendly venue is welcoming Cork band Pretty Happy and M(h)aol (a post-punk band named after the Irish pirate queen); The Gloaming and 10-string fiddle player Caoimhín Ó’Raghallaigh. The Wayward Folk trio will perform towards the end of the month with Dublin musician Myles O’Reilly setting up amongst the bookshelves in February, as well as Molly Mahony, Trick Mist, and Mantua.
“Hopefully we’ve got a little bit of something for everybody,” said the indie bookshop owners on Instagram.

The shop, first opened in 2013 has a fine selection of new, secondhand, and rare books and even boasts its very own printing press, publishing works by talented Irish poets and authors.
Books are in the Prim blood- owner Simon grew up watching his father sell books in the family shop in Youghal which has been going strong for over 50 years.
Now the Kinsale shop hosts regular gigs across all sorts of genres, making a name for itself as a bit of an alternative, creative hub in the town.
