An ode to St Luke’s, Brian Caffin’s new shop sells quirky antiques and homeware online

Brian Caffin appreciates a good story.
In fact, a consummate collector and curator of interesting bits and bobs, the St Luke’s-based entrepreneur is starting a new chapter of his own.
After many years of dreaming, he’s pouring his passion for turning personal spaces into a canvas of stories and memories into a new business.
An online shop, StLukes.ie launches today, with virtual shelves stocked with unique and meaningful everyday items you can nab for yourself (or gift to someone special, if you’re feeling generous).
Brian, who lives in St Luke’s with his husband, the well-known photographer Peter O’Toole, has put careful consideration into every pick:
“My French background is like a mixtape of bustling Parisian streets and the cosy tranquility of Brittany’s farms. Picture those charming old farmhouses that hold generations of stories within their walls – that’s where I soaked up the love for antiques and one-of-a-kind pieces.” he told us.
“It’s a bit like getting the best of both worlds, from city chic to countryside charm. And now, with StLukes.ie, I’m sharing that blend. It’s all about combining the timeless with the contemporary, infusing every piece with a touch of my French heritage.
It’s not Brian’s first foray into retail. His company Beau Bows Ireland created bowties that appeared on the red carpet at the BAFTAs and Emmys.
He comes from a long line of entrepreneurs, and the spirit of small businesses runs in his blood: “The thrill of crafting something unique and watching it flourish has always excited me.” he told Yay Cork.
“While my full-time job kept me busy, the drive to carve my path never ceased. The pandemic reshaped perspectives and working alongside my husband to nurture his business at peterotoole.ie illuminated the need to chase my dreams too.”
“StLukes.ie emerged from our shared passion for homeware and interior design. As someone with an affection for antiques, I saw the potential to meld tradition with a fresh, contemporary touch. It’s a natural transition, an evolution of my entrepreneurial journey, and a tribute to my family’s legacy of hustle and ambition.”
For Brian, sourcing stock is like going on a thrilling treasure hunt: “My French roots have given me a knack for appreciating the stories behind each piece, and that passion drives our selections. It’s about finding items with personality, with tales to tell.
“We’ve built great relationships with European suppliers and local Irish artisans who believe in the same values we do: quality and ethics. This means that when you bring something home from StLukes.ie, you’re not just getting an item, but a piece of history with positive vibes.
‘We believe in quality without breaking the bank’
From gorgeous dinnerware that’s perfect for your next dinner party to those little decor gems that bring a smile to your face every day, they’ve got it all covered.
“Our collection is a mix of modern and classic, a bit of “oh, that’s lovely!” and a dash of “wow, where did you get that?”. And the best part? We’ve made sure that our pieces don’t just make your home look great but also fit your budget.
“The prices vary depending on what you fancy, but one thing’s for sure – we believe in quality without breaking the bank.”
Like most of its residents, Brian and Peter have a deep love for their neighbourhood in St Luke’s.
“It’s not just a place; it’s a vibrant community that feels like home,” says Brian.
“There’s something truly special about the blend of old traditions and youthful energy here. From the friendly folks at Henchy’s to the charming St. Luke’s Garden, it’s a neighborhood that radiates warmth and togetherness.
“What’s incredible is how this community cares for and supports one another. And you know what? That’s exactly how we at StLukes.ie like to operate – like one big, homely community. We’re all about embracing the richness of tradition while adding our own young and vibrant twist. So, when I say StLukes.ie is a part of this neighborhood down to a T, I truly mean it.
“It’s all about celebrating the best of both worlds.”
