All these Midleton businesses are offering services free of charge after the floods

With a little help from your friends.
If there is one thing that can lift the spirits of the community after the devastating floods that hit Cork during Storm Babet, it’s people pulling together and helping each other through the worst of it.
In Midleton, businesses across the town have taken to social media to let locals know that they are here to help their neighbours, showing us all the fantastic meitheal spirit of the Midleton people.
“To all the locals here in Midleton who have been affected by the floods, we are absolutely devastated for ye and want to help in any way possible,” Midleton Fitness told followers on Thursday.
“So please feel free to use our facilities here in Midleton Fitness if you need to shower or charge your phones,” they said, adding that you don’t need to be a member to do so.

Similarly, Joe from Captain’s Catch announced that a free meal awaits any volunteers who are in the area and working to clean up the mess.
“For all people displaced, firemen, Gardaí, helpers, cleaners, volunteers, anyone at all affected by the flooding yesterday please come to us on Main Street and we will feed you.”

Among the work needed to be carried out in the area will undoubtedly be moving large water-damaged items. 360 Removals and Cleaning Specialists took to their stories to also offer a hand to anyone in the area who needs items to be moved.

Other businesses rallying around the community include the Midleton Park Hotel who are offering free water and provided meals and rooms to those affected.
This fantastic community spirit comes amid anger expressed online by some who believe that other hotels took the opportunity to hike their prices up in the wake of the floods.
“I see some Cork hotels doubled or tripled the price of their rooms tonight, I’m not sure if Ed Sheeran is playing in town or some people in flooded homes were looking for somewhere to stay. Shame,” said Damien Sreenan, a broadcast journalist for Corks 96FM and C103 Cork.
