After a decade-long career, Laser is hanging up his Garda harness to retire in Cork

It’s time he put his paws up.
After a decade-long career serving the people of Ireland, Garda canine Laser is hanging up his Garda harness this weekto retire in bliss at home in Cork with his best friend and handler, Garda Pat Harrington.
Announcing the dog’s retirement on social media today, a Garda spokesperson said that Laser joined the Garda Dog Unit in late 2011 at just five months old.
“His handler Garda Harrington took up the task of training him as a general purpose dog and within a year and a half, Laser was out hard at work making major detections.” they said.
Laser has had some stand-out successes too; during his career, he managed to sniff out a a€900k grow house, located several burglars, and recovered plenty of stolen goods.

“After every successful day’s work, Laser’s reward was time to play with his favourite ball, some Rodeo dog treats, and a Dentastix.” they added.
“There will be lots more much-deserved lie-ins and playtime as he enjoys his 80s after a long and distinguished police career.”
Thank you for your service, Laser.
