This is a lovely gesture.
A Cork supermarket is encouraging anyone who is struggling to put food on the table to contact them for help.
As Ireland begins six weeks of ‘Level 5’ Covid-19 restrictions and hundreds of thousands of people revert to government supports while they are out of work, Garvey’s SuperValu in Cobh is providing free food packages, supplied confidentially to anyone who needs them.
“With Level 5 restrictions now in place, we understand that this is an extremely difficult time for many in our community.” the store manager said in a message to customers.
“The uncertainty with business closures and job losses in the run-up to Christmas will mean that many will struggle financially. If you’re finding it tough to make ends meet and need some help, drop us a message and our team can arrange for a simple discretionary food package to be dropped at your door. It will be entirely confidential.
“Please don’t hesitate to ask for help.”
