12 gorgeous Cork walks that are perfect for right now

By Yay Cork April 16, 2026April 30, 2026

Spring in Cork doesn’t make a big show of itself.

It just arrives. One day you’re hunched against the rain, collar up, telling yourself you’ll get out “when the evenings stretch”. Then suddenly the light is different. The hedges are alive. The sea looks less hostile, more inviting.

Spring is when Cork is at its best for walking. You don’t need to conquer mountains or plan expeditions. What Cork offers instead are coastal paths that clear the head, forest trails that slow the pulse, and harbour-side rambles where you can often find a coffee (or a pint) at the end.

So if you’ve been telling yourself you need fresh air, or that you’ll get out “one of these days”, consider this your nudge. These are 12 gorgeous Cork walks — all well-established, clearly marked and ideal for now — that remind you why getting out the door is sometimes the best decision you make all day.

1) Ballycotton Cliff Walk

One of the county’s most dramatic coastal ambles. The path undulates along the coastline with constant views of the sea and Ballycotton Lighthouse. The full route is about 13 km (~5 hours), but can be shortened to simpler sections (5 km) for a brisker outing.

Best for: Sea breeze, cliff views, full-day spring adventure.

2) Old Head of Kinsale Loop

A classic spring walk — about 6 km (~1.5 hrs) — hugging the rugged headland and Atlantic edge with striking cliff views and ancient fort ruins. You’ll start and finish near the Speckled Door Bar & Restaurant, ideal for a post-walk pint or bite.

Best for: Sunset strolls and welcoming pubs.

3) Carrigaline → Crosshaven Greenway (Cork Harbour)

A gentle 5 km path beside Cork Harbour, great for all ages and abilities, with water views, boats bobbing by and cafés in Crosshaven on arrival.

Best for: Family outings and picnic stops.

4) Scilly Walk (Kinsale)

This beloved coastal walk from near the Spaniard Inn to Summercove offers quintessential Cork seaside character — colourful villages, sea views and that soft salt breeze. Locals often cite it as one of the county’s top spring routes.

Best for: Classic Cork-by-the-sea ramble.

5) Gougane Barra – Slí an Easa Trail

A gorgeous forest park loop near Gougane Barra, this route is about 1.8 km and features waterfalls, mountain views and lush valley scenery — perfect for a brisk, refreshing spring hike.

Best for: Forest tranquillity and waterfalls.

6) Doneraile House & Wildlife Park (North Cork)

This historic estate has several interconnected trails along the Awbeg River through meadows, mature trees and heritage landscapes. Routes vary from easy to moderate, suiting walkers of all speeds.

Best for: Nature and history lovers.

7) Mount Hillary Loop (North-West Cork)

Climb through woodlands and forest paths on this ~10 km loop up Mount Hillary. The reward is panoramic views over Cork and beyond — especially vivid in spring when new greens are at their brightest.

Best for: Viewpoints and forest serenity.

8) Sheep’s Head Lighthouse Loop (Sheep’s Head Peninsula)

Part of the famed Sheep’s Head Way network, this ~4 km loop takes you to the island-like tip of the peninsula to the lighthouse, with sweeping coastal views and grassland scents on the breeze.

Best for: Cliff scenery and Spring Atlantic air.

9) Knockomagh Hill / Lough Hyne (West Cork)

A roughly 10 km route climbing to Knockomagh Hill above the marine nature reserve at Lough Hyne, offering panoramic coastal views to Galley Head and beyond on clear days.

Best for: A more demanding but rewarding outing.

10) Timoleague → Courtmacsherry (Seven Heads area)

An easy, flat ~10 km path along an old railway line and coastal edge between Timoleague and Courtmacsherry — ideal for gentle spring walking and birdlife spotting.

Best for: Easy, leisure family walks.

11) Ardnakinna Lighthouse Loop (Bere Island)

On Bere Island, this ~3 hr loop takes in quiet country paths and seaside views, with the lighthouse as your springtime focal point.

Best for: Island atmosphere and blue-water vistas.

12) Fitzgerald’s Park & The Lough (Cork City)

For those staying urban, Fitzgerald’s Park offers riverside paths, gardens and museum stops beside the Lee, while The Lough is a protected wildlife reserve with an easy ~1 km circuit around the lake’s edge.

Best for: City wander, kids with bikes, casual strolls.

There you have it — a dozen walks that capture all of what makes Cork in spring special: wide skies, wilder seas, woodland green, and the quiet countryside. Lace up, check the weather and make this spring one for fresh air, blooming hedgerows and properly earned pints at the end.
