A local sex ed guru is hosting an afternoon of ‘vulva empowerment’ on a Cork beach

Ah, the humble vulva.
For too long, it’s been shrouded in whispers and shame, relegated to the dusty corners of biology textbooks with diagrams that look more like exploded potatoes than the magnificent life force it truly is.
But listen up, Cork mná, because a revolution is brewing, and it involves salty breezes, self-discovery, and a good dose of craic.
Sex Educator Olivia (Sx Sláinte) and Yoga and breathwork facilitator Shauna of Shauna Rose Yoga are joining forces to host a fun afternoon al fresco on a secret beach, where participants will learn more about the female anatomy – with a sprinkle of Gaeilge.
The very first Gabhal Mná – Afternoon Nature Retreat will take place at a semi-secluded beach near Garretstown in Cork on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, promising an opportunity to celebrate and rejuvenate your body and immerse yourself in a day of nature and inspiration from noon until 4pm.

“Gabhal Mná is an old Irish euphemism for the vulva.” the organisers explain.
“It translates as female estuary, hearth opening or women’s junction! (thanks to Manchán Magan for his research on the Gaeilge terms for female anatomy).”
All you need to bring are warm clothes, a cushion, a blanket and a towel for the optional skinny dip.
Tickets are €48.48 here and a portion of your ticket purchase will go towards providing period products for people in Cork who can not afford them.
