This Zero Waste Plant Swap and Foraging Walk is happening in the middle of town

Waste not, want not, right?
If you have a needling guilt about throwing away more than necessary, Cork Zero Waste has organised a day of activities this Saturday, June 22nd at Test Site, Kyrl’s Quay, all designed to help you reduce waste and make use of what you have.
“We’ll start at Test Site and make our way over to the Banks of the Lee walkway for a foraging walk.” the organisers told us.
“We’ll talk you through the different plants that grow there year round that you can forage to eat, drink or use medicinally. We’ll pick whatever is in season and take it back to Test Site to use in our No Food Waste demo.”

The demo will feature recipes using food that might otherwise be wasted and share information on other food waste ‘hacks’ throughout with samples to taste.
Later, a natural dye demo will show you how to dye fabric with food scraps that you have at home and plants that you can forage or grow.
“We’ll demo dying with turmeric and have samples of other colours to show. If you wish, bring along a small piece of white, clean fabric (about 12 x 12 inches / 30 x 30 cm) to dye in the turmeric vat,” they added.
To finish up, a talk about all things composting will cover bokashi, hot composting, leaf mould, and worms and how they might be an option for you at home.
A plant swap will take place in Test Site throughout the event. Bring up to five indoor or outdoor plants and swap for whatever you like. Anything left at the end of the event is free to a good home.
The Cork Zero Waste event is free (tickets here) but donations are appreciated. The fun starts at 3pm.
