Cork City Marathon is open for entries and early birds can snap up discounted tickets

By Yay Cork December 14, 2022December 14, 2022

The six-month countdown starts here.

Lord Mayor of Cork Councillor Deirdre Forde has officially launched the Cork City Marathon 2023 and with race day looming, organisers say it’s crucial that runners set out their training schedule now if they want to take on the challenge.

The 15th Cork City Marathon will take place on Sunday, June 4th, 2023.

Registration is open now and with Christmas less than two weeks away, early bird options are available for the full (€77) and half marathon (€55) distances, which could make great presents for participants.

The Cork City Marathon serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier and offers participants a fast and mostly flat course, incorporating a stint under the river Lee via the Jack Lynch Tunnel.

More than 12,000 people from all over the world took to the start line on St Patrick’s Street in the city centre last June as the marathon returned from two years of being run on a virtual basis.

“2022 was an important year for us because it proved that there is still an appetite for a marathon in Cork, despite the enforced two-year break,” said Race Director Adrienne Rodgers.

“While we were delighted to welcome so many runners from outside of Cork, we were thrilled to have local winners in our men’s and women’s marathons. Our team is working hard to ensure that 2023 will be another exceptionally successful race.”

Once again the emphasis will be on making the Cork City Marathon as green as possible, through initiatives such as offering runners the option to swap their tees for trees, whereby they can sponsor the planting of a tree by An Dúlra instead of getting a t-shirt, paperless entry forms, tickets and race programmes, recyclable medals and recyclable water cartons and lids.

Marathon organisers are planning a comprehensive schedule of support and advice for marathon participants between now and June 4th, available at corkcitymarathon.ie.
