This pocket-friendly class will teach you how to embroider your old stuff with plant life

The devil is in the details.
And when it comes to upcycling clothes and textiles, that’s where the magic happens too.
If you’ve always envied creative folk with the ability to turn any old garment into a covetable fashion piece using little more than a needle and thread, listen up.
An upcoming four-week course will show participants how to embroider plant life onto upcycled material, all while chatting about community, care, and plants at Greywood Arts with artist-in-residence Frieda Ford.

“Stitching together as a group creates a calm and reflective space for conversation and the chance to create new relationships, practice an old craft, and to learn new skills,” says Frieda.
“These sessions will build on a long, global history of collaborative stitching activity in relation to community building.”
Ford specialises in film, socially engaged work, and textiles and explores themes of gossip and myth-making in her work in relation to feminism and queer theory.
These sessions are open to anyone, whatever level you are at and materials will be provided but everyone is encouraged to bring in their own non-stretch fabric to embroider onto, such as an old shirt.
The workshop will run on Wednesdays from November 10th to December 1st, 2021, 5.30pm to 7pm at Greywood Arts, Killeagh and the cost is a reasonable €45 for all four sessions.
