Minus temperatures on the way as winter weather begins in earnest

It’s time to dig out the hot water bottles.
Winter officially starts today, and according to Met Éireann’s latest regional forecast for Munster, we can expect the nights to be suitably bitter from here on out.
Monday will be a cool and breezy day, relatively fresh, with temperatures of between 9 and 11 degrees. The night will be less pleasant, with showers persisting in the west, and temperatures falling as low as 2 degrees.
It won’t be so bad during the day tomorrow, with middling temperatures and hazy sunshine once again, plus showers along the coastline. While the night is set to be dry, we could end up with patches of frost, as temperatures look set to fall to zero.
Following this pattern, Wednesday will be a fine day: “Many areas will be dry with bright autumn sunshine, but scattered showers will continue across Atlantic counties, just isolated elsewhere.” Unfortunately, once night falls, we could be looking at temperatures as low as -2.
Cork will escape the showers faced by Ulster and Connacht on Thursday, and will have a mix of cloudy weather and sunny spells. Once again, temperatures will be around the 10 degrees mark.
