You can’t go to the pub, but now the pub can come to you.

With Ireland’s rural bars now closed until August 10th, a group of West Cork friends have come up with a unique alternative that could offer a way to enjoy a traditional night out in your own back garden.

Stephen O’Mahony, Owen Mc Carthy and Paudie O’Donovan from Ahiohill have spent the last two months handcrafting a fully functioning mobile Irish pub.

The project, initially just a bit of fun to pass the time during the lockdown, quickly turned into a labour of love for the three childhood friends, who took a 14ft trailer destined for ruin and turned it into an adorable bar, aptly named ‘One for the Road’.

From the walls to the flooring, the stable door and windows down to the cushions, curtains and the bar itself; every single element has been carefully hand made by the trio with the help of family members and friends.

The finished interior will take you back in time to a traditional country watering hole, with a cosy stove, creamy pints and snug to gather around and chat with friends.

If you live in West Cork or you’re staying in the area during the summer, you can hire One for the Road for a night or a weekend and the lads will set it up at a location of your choosing.

How do I book?

Perfect for a party or a surprise for a special event or birthday, One for The Road is available to hire in the West Cork area at €500 for one night and €250 for a second night.

Kegs are not provided but One for the Road can give recommendations for suppliers and can set up the kegs and coolers when the bar is delivered.
