A bright and airy space with exposed beams, arched windows and comfy seats for people-watching and daydreaming, Saint Francis Provisions is now open for lunch and brunch on Short Quay, Kinsale.
The café is owned by Barbara Nealon, who moved to the seaside town from San Farancisco with her husband last year
“We work closely with local makers and growers.” Barbara told Yay Cork.
“Creating community through these relationships and with our guests is central to who we are. We love creating a space where a love of great food, drinks (including our gorgeous natural wine program) music and good vibes are queen.”
Vegetables are supplied by a local grower, with fresh loaves either baked in-house or delivered by Arbutus Bread and cakes by The Flour House, Ballinspittle.
And the ‘provisions’ element is hard to resist too – a stunning collection of handmade pottery is available from brands such as Inconsistent Machine, with more useful objects guaranteed to make a souvenir you might actually use.
There’s an exciting drinks menu, with a small but perfectly formed organic wine list, a keffir mocktail and a mint and seaweed tea on the menu alongside Red Strand Coffee.
Feeling under the weather? Order a JAMU, a powerful little concoction made with turmeric, ginger, tamarind and pepper in West Cork.
Vegans are well catered for, with creative swaps available on all carnivorous menu ingredients and St Francis Provisions is already making plans for an evening menu:
“From August we have super talented Cork native chef Darren Kennedy joining our team from London.” Barbara continued.
“He will be leading our kitchen as we launch our evenings, where the focus will be on the wines and beers the small plates, the good vibes.”
