Your guide to conquering (or cheering on) the 2024 Cork City Marathon

By Yay Cork May 30, 2024May 28, 2024

It’s that time of year again.

Expect lots of lycra and cheering crowds – the 2024 Cork City Marathon is almost here.

This year’s event on Sunday, June 2nd is already sold out for the full marathon, half marathon, and 10k, with a whopping 10,000 registered to take part, raising over €100,000 for various local and national charities.

Competitors in the full race will take on a gruelling 42.195km (26 miles and 385 yards) and the first ten to complete it will take home cash prizes of up to €1,000 and trophies donated by Keane’s Jewellers, You can check out the race map here.

Whether you’re lacing up your runners or lining the streets to support, here’s what you need to know:

Need-to-Knows

  • Full Marathon: Take your place at 8:15 am on St. Patrick’s Street – that’s where the champions take off!
  • Half Marathon Champions: Your starting line’s Monahan Road at 10:15 am (muster at Kennedy Park, T12H9CF)
  • 10k Legends: Join the 8:45 am charge from St. Patrick’s Street (assemble on Merchant’s Quay at 8:15 am sharpish).

Gear up

Don’t forget to collect your race pack, including your bib and magic chip, from Cork City Hall on Friday, May 31st (noon to 7 pm) and Saturday, June 1st (11 am to 6 pm).

Can’t make it yourself? No worries! A mate can collect your pack with your registration form, barcode, DOB, and mobile number.

Water Stations: There are 13 stations across the marathon course, two for the 10k race. The locations of the water stations are marked on the Course Map located on the Cork City Marathon website.

Toilets: Loos are available at City Hall, near the start/finish lines, and portaloos with period products are placed throughout the course.

Bag Drop: City Hall Underground Car Park, Eglinton Street T12 H795 (7 am – 5 pm on race day).

Where are the best viewing spots for the Cork City Marathon?

Spectators play a vital role, so if you want to be part of the atmosphere, the best points to view the race from include:

  • Patrick Street/ Grand Parade/ anywhere in the city centre
  • By the Elysian
  • St. Patrick’s Bridge (seeing the race at both sides of the river)
  • Turners Cross
  • The Lough
  • Model Farm Road near MTU

Road closures

With an event of this scale some disruption is unavoidable and road closures are essential to provide a course and ensure safety of all participants. All the details of road closures and traffic restrictions will be available to view on the Cork City Marathon website.

So there you have it, Cork! Get those trainers on, cheer on the champions, and get ready for a fantastic day celebrating our city’s spirit.
