Young folk are leading the first ever Anti-Racist Summit to be held in Cork

Deeds, not words.
That’s what the young team behind the first Anti-Racist Summit is hoping to inspire at their event in Millennium Hall next week.
Members of Cork Migrant Centre and CMC Youth Against Racism, CYPSC Anti Racist Subgroup (Children & Young People’s Service Committees), T.V.G (Traveller Visibility Group), and Cork City Council Social Inclusion Office will join members of Cork’s Roma Community, Mexican Community and LGBTQIA+ Community to host an all-day discussion from 1pm to 6pm on Friday, May 26th.
They have invited policymakers, politicians, and organisations to engage in a dialogue about the impacts of racism, and to be part of the conversation for tackling racism in Cork, and Ireland.
“It will be about stepping into the world of Black, Brown, Traveller, and Roma, youth as they express their experiences with racism through creativity, music, spoken word, dance and theatre.” a spokesperson told us.
“The event, which is the first ever youth-led Anti-Racism Summit in Cork, will showcase the talent and leadership skills of these young people, who are often marginalized and viewed through a deficit lens.
“Retelling and reliving their personal experiences of being othered takes great courage. It will be a fine balance between sharing their hurt with the support of their mentors, while projecting a message of hope, saying loudly and clearly that they want to be at the forefront of the movement for positive change.”
