Youghal’s Lighthouse Keeper’s cottage is now a GORGEOUS Airbnb

You can literally hear the waves crashing on the rocks from your bedroom.
If it’s a restorative seaside staycation you’re after and you don’t want to travel too far from home, a night or two at The Lighthouse Keeper’s in Youghal could be just what the doctor ordered.
Now open for bookings after a brave two-year renovation by Saoirse Fitzgerald, who purchased the property as a bolt-hole from her work and life in London, the house was once home to every lightkeeper that manned Youghal lighthouse since the 1800s.
The Lighthouse itself, which overlooks the house from the garden, became automated in 2007 but it’s still in use and flashes each night at an interval of 2.5 seconds.
Perched on a cliff edge, the house is a three-minute stroll to the beach and a ten-minute walk into the town of Youghal.
Once you catch a glimpse of the interiors however, you may never want to leave.
Downstairs is open plan with an adorable kitchen and Smeg fridge.
There’s a sea-facing bath tub for soaking your weary bones at the end of a long week while gazing out at the rolling ocean and a 20-foot conservatory, complete with hanging chair, for taking in the scenery, no matter what the weather is doing.
Just look at that view…
It’s cosy too, which makes it an ideal pick for a winter break.
The old original windows have been restored, set into walls that are three feet deep. An old fireplace takes pride of place in each bedroom.
The house sleeps six people (with two double sea facing rooms and one twin room) so it’s ideal for family get-togethers or short getaways with mates.
It also makes a romantic couple’s retreat and you can cook up a feast in the kitchen or stroll into town for dinner, if the mood takes you.
The Lighthouse Keepers House is available to rent on Airbnb, prices start at €250 per night.
