You can sleep inside a giant wine barrel on this Portugese vineyard

By Katie Mythen-Lynch March 29, 2019March 29, 2019

For a wine lover, it doesn’t get better than this.

A 300-year-old vineyard in Portugal’s famous Douro region has launched a novel accommodation option, inviting guests to sleep over in a wine barrel complete with luxury bedding, air conditioning and a full bathroom with shower.

Quinta da Pacheca is one of the best known estates in the Douro region, attracting wine lovers from all over the world to enjoy the famous local cuisine while sipping and sampling wines at the source.

Now they can do so with the added charm of falling into bed at the end of a blissful evening and waking up to views of the rolling fields and vineyards that surround the five-star property.

Each wine barrel bedroom (there are ten in total) boasts a modern private terrace where you can conduct your own private wine tasting before enjoying tutorials, cooking classes, wine pairing and traditional wine making demonstrations on the 140-acre property.

About four hours from Lisbon (Aer Lingus operates a twice-weekly service from Cork to Portugal’s capital city), a night in a wine barrel room will set you back around €255 per night.

Barrel of laughs guaranteed.
