Yes, Bishop Lucey Park will reopen in November with a new name

It’s all change on the Grand Parade.
And with work underway on transforming one of the most important green spaces in Cork City, it has now been confirmed that Bishop Lucey Park will be renamed when it reopens this winter.
The park, which is set to be completed by November, was a hot topic during Monday night’s Council meeting, where Cllrs Niamh O’Connor, Oliver Moran and Ted Tynan tabled a motion proposing “That as part of the redevelopment of Bishop Lucey Park, the Chief Executive shall undertake a process to explore the renaming of the park”.
“In my opinion this is not a matter of ‘renaming’ a park, it’s a new park deserving of a new name.” Cllr O’Connor said.

“When the new park opens it will bear absolutely no resemblance to the park that was there previously. A new park presents a unique opportunity to choose a name that reflects what we value as a city.”
Speaking after the meeting Cllr O’Connor said she was delighted that her fellow councillors backed the motion and that it had carried with 17 councillors voting in favour:
“To me, that park has always been the Peace Park and I think, at a time where peace is probably more fragile than it has been in a long time, it would be a fitting name but ultimately the people of Cork will decide the name of the park and that is exactly how it should be.”
