Wine, small plates and good chats: Monty’s launches a new evening concept

East Cork just got a new date night spot.
After more than a decade working alongside her mum Lisa in the much-loved Monty’s café in Midleton, Shauna O’Brien is stepping into a new chapter with an evening offering that’s all about slowing down, sharing plates and settling in for a good catch-up.
Named Monty’s Iníon — the Irish word for daughter — the new concept transforms the popular daytime spot into a cosy after-hours destination for date nights, overdue reunions and those “just one more glass” evenings.
Expect a menu of small plates, tapas-style bites and Irish cheese boards, paired with a carefully chosen selection of wines, spritzes and alcohol-free options.
“We’re doing picky bits, tapas and small bites and Irish cheese boards with a selection of wines and spritz (with non-alcoholic options too),” Shauna told Yay Cork.

“Most of everything we do, as always, is made in-house,” added Shauna.
“Growing up, my parents taught me everything I know about food, and I’ve been working up in the kitchen with my mom since I was 16, so in ten years I’ve worked up a passion for it! I’m always experimenting with different salads, pickles and sandwiches for the café, so I said why not start experimenting with my own menu in the evenings?”
Why not indeed. Monty’s Inion is open Fridays and Saturdays from 5pm, and walk-ins are welcome.
