Wild thunderstorms make way for a warm week in Cork with 21C sunshine

There was plenty of action in the skies last night.
But after a fierce thunderstorm rumbled over parts of Cork on Sunday, with lightning sparking a fire that destroyed a home in Ballineen, West Cork, the week ahead is looking much calmer.
Video from earlier this evening near Ballineen in West Cork with electrical pole fire and sadly reports that a house nearby was also struck by lightning and the house destroyed by fire. Thoughts with the owners of the home. pic.twitter.com/kwti8fNgpU

Today, Monday will be largely dry with sunny spells and highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees. Tonight will become cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle and some mist will form too, but lowest temperatures won’t dip below 13 to 16 degrees after dark.
Tomorrow morning is looking pretty grim with clouds and drizzle trying their best to dampen our spirits. But fear not, sunshine seekers! The rain will pack its bags and head east by lunchtime, leaving us with a brighter afternoon and temps around 16 to 20 degrees.
Just remember to grab a jacket in the morning and sunglasses for the afternoon.
Wednesday will be cloudy with temperatures of up to 21C, while Thursday looks set to bring some rain in the morning, but 20C sunny spells in the afternoon.
Friday will be cloudy too but current indications suggest a good amount of dry weather for the weekend with daytime temperatures reaching the mid to high teens generally.
