Weather: Damp and mild in Cork but Met Éireann warns of looming temp drop

It’s mild for now, but a cold snap is on the way.
Cork is sitting in a fairly mild but murky spell of weather at the moment, with plenty of cloud, damp conditions and outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Today stays grey and misty for the most part, though there’s some better news later as drier conditions slowly push up from the southwest towards evening.
Temperatures will stay around 8 to 12 degrees— so it’s not cold just yet, but it’s not exactly pleasant either.
Tonight remains cloudy and misty, with more light rain and drizzle drifting through. A spell of more persistent rain looks likely in the southwest towards morning. Overnight temperatures won’t dip too much, staying between 6 and 8 degrees.
Tuesday brings more of the same for Cork — dull and damp with ongoing outbreaks of rain and drizzle. It’ll feel mild enough for February, with highs again of 9 to 12 degrees, but sunshine will be hard to come by.
Temps drop to -3 by night on Thursday
Looking a little further ahead, that mild feel won’t last. While midweek stays mostly cloudy with scattered rain, temperatures will start to slip back, especially at night. By Thursday, brighter conditions are expected to develop, but they’ll come with a noticeable drop in temperatures. Night-time frost and icy patches are likely, with temperatures falling as low as -3 degrees in places.
By Friday, Cork should see brighter and mostly dry weather with some good sunny spells — but it’ll feel much colder than it has recently, with daytime highs only reaching 4 to 7 degrees.
So enjoy the relatively mild air while it’s here — winter isn’t done with us just yet.
