WEATHER: ‘Cold and crisp’ today but temperatures could sink to -8 tonight

It’s a magic day for a wintery walk.
While you’ll definitely be needing the thermals, a scarf, and a thick winter coat before venturing out, Met Éireann is forecasting a cold and dry day today with crisp winter sunshine.
Daytime temperatures will hover at just +1 to +3 degrees, however, with a Status Yellow – Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland in place for the rest of the working week and a Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice warning for Cork kicking in at 6pm this evening until noon on Thursday.
Forecasters warn that it will be “extremely cold on Wednesday night with widespread temperatures below -5 degrees leading to severe frost and ice.”

Widespread sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches are expected and the mercury could plummet as low as -8 in places with showers of hail, sleet and snow likely.
