A celebration of Cork GAA.
Cork City Council has confirmed that a virtual homecoming event will take place on Monday, 30th of August, to honour the achievements of Cork GAA in the past year.
Last weekend, Cork were defeated in their first All-Ireland Hurling Final Appearance since 2013. The minor hurling team will be honoured for their win over Galway in their final last week. The Under 20 hurlers, who also clinched the All-Ireland title ahead of Galway will also be celebrated.
A statement from Cork City Council confirmed that “Several Cork GAA stars will be interviewed by renowned sports broadcaster Ger Canning. The broadcast will feature players and managers from the Minor Hurling and Football teams, the Under-20s Hurling and Football teams and the Senior Hurling team.” The broadcast will begin at 7pm on the Irish Examiner website.
The Lord Mayor said: “As a Corkonian, nothing gives me more pride than to watch our Cork GAA heroes line out on a match day.
“The hard work that each player puts into their training – literally blood, sweat and tears – is inspiring. Their dedication to excellence and to preserving our nation’s historical sports is something to truly be admired by young and old alike.”
“Throughout the pandemic, their efforts on the field have given us a much-needed lift and have brought communities across Cork City and County together, even as we stayed apart. I’m delighted to be able to pay tribute to their commitment in this way.”
The event will also feature music by legendary Irish performer Seán Ó Sé.
