Uh-oh: Met Éireann says Cork is in for some ‘impactful’ bank holiday weather

We had high hopes for the bank holiday.
But according to the latest weather reports, it looks like Cork’s August weekend is going to be showery to start, dissolving into a full-on deluge on Sunday as a ‘humid, moisture-laden airmass’ moves in over the country.
“While there’ll be some limited bright spells this morning, mainly in eastern parts of the province, it’ll be mostly cloudy, but with just a little patchy light rain and drizzle at first in places.” said a forecaster.
However, a spell of persistent rain, turning heavy at times, will spread across Munster through the morning and afternoon before clearing to mainly dry sunny weather in the afternoon, with highest temperatures 17 to 22 degrees.
Mostly cloudy this morning, with outbreaks of rain in the west moving across the country this morning & afternoon ☁️🌧️
Drier & sunny weather will follow during the afternoon & evening ⛅️
Highs: 17-23°C. Turning fresher as the rain clears 🌡️

“Tomorrow, Saturday, will be a bright day with good spells of sunshine and while there’ll be a lot of dry weather, there’ll be a scattering of showers too, especially in the west.” said the forecasters. Highest temperatures will range from 16 to 19 degrees.
Heavy rain and potential flooding
“Some impactful weather is on the way for Sunday, Sunday night and into Bank holiday Monday in parts too, with heavy rain and localised flooding expected in places, as a humid, moisture-laden airmass moves in over the country.
“It’ll become fresher for the rest of next week, with temperatures around average for the time of year, and while there’ll be some showers or rain at times, there’ll be nothing too impactful, with a good lot of dry weather overall too and some sunshine.”
While the outlook isn’t great for the final big weekend of summer 2024, with a band of rain sweeping across the country today, at least pollen levels are going to fall nationwide.
A tiny sliver of good news for hayfever sufferers.
