Uber launches in Cork today with plans for 100 drivers on the app by January

It’s excellent timing, to be fair.
Uber launches its taxi service in Cork today ahead of the busy party season, having already arrived in Dublin and Limerick earlier this year.
The company says the launch is a response to the significant increase in demand in Cork, with thousands of local residents opening the Uber app in recent months. The first drivers on Uber are already on the road and Uber aims to bring at least 100 onto the platform by the end of the year.
Interestingly, as the recovery from the pandemic continued this year, more people have turned to ride-hailing apps for transport. In fact, in Dublin, October 2022 was Uber’s busiest month since the beginning of the pandemic.
Now riders in Cork can use the Uber app to book a taxi trip with a fully licensed taxi driver, track their own trip, and share it with trusted contacts. The company says its community guidelines and built-in safety features are also aimed at making travel in Cork as reliable and secure as possible.
“We are extremely proud to launch Uber in Cork where we have been seeing increased demand for our services,” said Kieran Harte, General Manager of Uber in Ireland.
“Expanding Uber to the city will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit.”
