Two acclaimed Cork playwrights are hosting a free workshop for local young people

It could be the beginning of a career in theatre.
Graffiti Theatre and The Everyman are collaborating with acclaimed Cork playwrights Katie Holly and John McCarthy to host a five-month playwriting programme for young people aged 15 to 22 years who are interested in developing their writing skills for performance.
Beginning with a blank page, the selected young writers will respond to writing prompts and exercises to develop their voice as they explore writing for performance, what makes a play, and what play they wish to make.
Individual voices will be encouraged, mentored and supported over a series of workshops in Cork to create short plays which will be directed and performed by professional actors, in a series of rehearsed readings on the Everyman stage in August 2024.

Now in its seventh year, this opportunity is open to young people aged 15 to 22 based in Cork and Munster, who are passionate about finding their voice as a writer and seeing their work performed.
“Graffiti encourages applicants who identify as neurodiverse and/or disabled, those from minority ethnic communities and/or those who feel their voices are under-represented. Irish language writers are also welcome to participate in the programme.” they told us.
If you are passionate about writing, would like to see your writing performed on The Everyman stage or have a pal who wants to take their writing to the next step, application details are here.
The free programme is supported by funding from the Arts Council of Ireland, Cork City Arts Office and donations made to Graffiti & The Everyman.
