Here’s something to add to your staycation itinerary.
Trendy Dublin potters Arran Street East are opening a new Creative Hub in the seaside village of Schull in West Cork this summer.
The Hub will be a centre for making and learning traditional crafts, and will offer pottery, weaving, and baking courses in a beautifully restored barn located behind Main Street.
Set within a tree-filled space that takes in the beautiful views of Schull harbour, the Hub adjoins the busy Food and Craft Market that takes place every Sunday.
Both Arran Street East locations in Dublin and West Cork will offer a programme of workshops ranging from two hours in duration to full days and seven-week evening courses with prices ranging from €65 to €340.
For beginners looking for a good introduction to pottery, the Throwdown Workshop will show you how to work on your own pottery wheel to shape clay and teach you some basic throwing techniques.
At the end of the workshop, students select their favourite pot, and it’s fired and glazed for you to collect a few weeks later.
Baking workshops will be exclusive to the new location at Schull, West Cork, while pottery wheel and hand-building workshops as well as frame-weaving workshops will be available in both the Dublin and Schull premises on a year-round basis.
