To Kilbrittain and a farmhouse café with beach views

The Scott family have farmed their rolling estate in Kilbrittain for more than 350 years.
Now Rebecca Scott is opening up the property’s stunning sea views to the public, luring hungry day-trippers with a farm-to-table menu you can enjoy on site or order to take home.
A quirky, rustic farmhouse café with stunning views of Harbour View Beach, Rebecca’s Kitchen and Farm Shop is now open for brunch and lunch along the Wild Atlantic Way.
It’s a fresh idea that’s firmly based in tradition; Rebecca credits all her cooking and baking skills to her mum, Diana.
“My mum is an incredibly talented home cook and baker.” Rebecca told Yay Cork. “I remember standing on a chair at the Aga helping her from a very young age.

“Food is such a massive part of our lives and I saw the joy it brought everyone who visited our home. I’m just trying to recreate that on a slightly bigger scale.”
Surrounded by the green hills and banks of Kilbrittain, the business was originally conceived as a catering service and one-stop-shop for all things sweet and savoury to-go.
Now the farm café also offers a sit-in option with comfortable seating both inside and out.
While you can still take away tasty bakes and ready-made meals (both fresh and frozen), Rebecca now serves up a delicious mix of hot and cold dishes with plenty of vegan options too.

Having grown up on the estate, a strong sense of family and community informs every part of Rebecca’s business.
She cooks with home-grown, organic fruit and vegetables, while also working closely with local makers and growers.
Produce comes from neighbouring towns; organically farmed salmon from Ummera in Timoleague and fresh, seasonal crops from Food for Humans market gardens in Ballinhassig.

Desserts are festooned with edible flowers from Howe Hill Farm just up the road, with beautiful bouquets (of real garden flowers, grown locally and chemical free) also available for purchase at the farm shop.
Other bits to buy include gorgeous, handwoven macramé pot hangers made locally by Carla Nicholson.

“Whilst keeping the integrity of the café with local, fresh produce, I think having it so family orientated is its main ethos.” Rebecca continued.
“I am hoping my sister will move home from Australia next year and run it with me. It has always been our dream. I have started the journey in the hopes that she will soon join me.”
