This quirky city spot has been announced Cork’s Innovative Pub of the Year

Taking a break from your local?
If it’s something a little quirky you’re after, take a seat in The Liberty this weekend.
The South Main Street bar has just been announced as Innovative Bar of the Year for Cork in the Irish Pub Awards.
The design of the venue is a small nod to the previous incarnation of The Liberty when it was a favourite haunt of the punks and students of Cork.
Downstairs is a bright, relaxed open space with an industrial/eclectic feel. The bar features exposed brick, galvanised sheeting and conduit, old crates and printer trays and custom-made shelving, and wine racks made with materials from Cork Builders Providers.
Upstairs at Resistance is a more luxurious speakeasy vibe; dark with subdued lighting, antique leather sofas, rugs and mirrors. The walls are adorned with antique gilt frames which contain a series of unique pieces of artwork, commissioned by local artists.
“We are only open since October 2022 (less than a year) and have tried to create something different with the bar.” manager Alexander Gannon told Yay Cork.

“We were also recently nominated a Best Newcomer in the Bar of the Year Awards, so this is really the icing on the cake for a great first year.”
