Itching for a knees-up with the girls?

It’ll be a while yet before we can hit the bars for a G&T, but there is a way to get the whole gang together for a few drinks and a bit of educational fun online.

The first new distillery in Cork city in almost fifty years, Rebel City Distillery launched its first release, Maharani Gin, last summer.

Now founders Robert and Bhagya Barrett are running their first online tasting and Q&A session on Friday, February 26th at 7pm and it’s probably the most fun you can have at home in your slippers.

There are two tickets options; you can purchase a tasting box which includes a 70cl bottle of Maharani Gin, three signature botanicals (Pomelo, Nutmeg Mace and Cassia), a stemless glass and a ticket to the event for €60 (delivered to your door before the event).

If you already have a bottle of Maharani Gin in the cocktail bar, you can choose the ticket-only option and join in the tasting for €5.

Head distiller Robert will talk participants through the process of formulating the perfect gin while Bhagya will explain the brand’s unique Keralite botanicals, sourced from an organic women’s cooperative in Wayanad, India.

“Our plans for Maharani Gin had to be significantly adjusted over the last few months in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Robert told Yay Cork.

“However, we are thrilled that our product is now available to buy online and we can offer virtual tastings. We can’t open the distillery to the public yet, but we can meet online and share a glass of Maharani together!”

Hit the group WhatApp pronto and get everyone signed up for a doorstep gin delivery here.
