This new skin treatment gets RAVE reviews… and it’s just landed in Cork

Now that ageing is no longer a dirty word, the holy grail of skincare is a subtle result that mimics the effects of a week at a spa.
Among Cork beauty buffs, Botox is still the go-to option for removing deep set wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming.
However, if you quite like your laughter lines (after all, you earned them) there are a raft of new subtle skin smoothers and boosters that can give you a rested, healthy glow without restricting your expressions one bit.
The most exciting is Profhilo, which has been quietly added to celebrity skin routines for more than a year.
This is not a filler, nor will it freeze any of the muscles in your face, if that’s your fear, so there’s zero risk of puffy cheeks or the dreaded ‘overdone’ look.
Rather, Profhilo is an injectable moisturiser that improves skin tone, texture, hydration, and radiance by stimulating four different types of collagen and elastin in the skin.
Essentially, it moisturises your complexion from the inside. Fans love it because it’s quick, effective and you can have it done on your lunch break without any awkward down time.
Here’s a before (top) and after (bottom):
Dr Mary Sheehan, who is now taking bookings for Profhilo at her new clinic, Celeste Medical on Belvedere Lawn on Douglas Road, explains:
“From age 30 onwards, we start to lose a considerable amount of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which leads to the first signs of ageing.
“At its most basic, Profhilo is an injection of 100% hyaluronic acid, a compound that naturally occurs in your body, to boost, hydrate and remodel sagging aged tissue.”
Here’s the science bit: Hyaluronic acid holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Deposited just under the surface of the skin, it helps to plump out lines for a natural-looking result.
“The treatment is carried out in two appointments, four weeks apart. Each appointment involves five pinprick injection points to each side of the face.” adds Dr. Sheehan.
The results last up to nine months, so at around €600 per full treatment, you get plenty of bang for your beauty buck… and a subtle glow that ensures you look like you, but better.
