This is when Cork’s outdoor swimming pool opens for the summer

You might not even know it exists.
Just 16km outside Cork City, in the village of Carraig Na Bhfear, lies the dream summer find; an outdoor swimming pool that is open to the public for three blissful months of the year.
Built by a group of volunteers way back in 1963, the pool was heated in 1996 and hot showers were installed in 1998.
It’s still run by locals, but the team had a helping hand this year from Alcon Ireland employees who carried out work on the windbreak, changing rooms, outdoor furniture and bike racks as part of a community development programme organised by the company, so it looks extra snazzy ahead of summer 2019.
With everything almost ship shape, this year’s opening date will be in mid-June.
Adult session tickets are €5, children €3, with season ticket discounts available for anyone who wants to use the pool regularly.
With temperatures already hitting the high teens, we’ll be keeping an eye on the Carraig Na Bhfear Outdoor Swimming Pool Facebook page for updates.
