This iconic Cork ice cream stop is having a €2m facelift

Now Fitzpatrick’s Foodstore in Glounthaune is celebrating 77 years in business with an extensive €2 million redevelopment.
The iconic roadside shop and bakery has secured planning permission from Cork County Council for a transformation that will deliver of 5000sq feet of space.
The makeover will see the famous pit stop become a destination food store, catering to motorists as well as the busy local lunchtime trade.
The large scale extension will see the current premises incorporate the adjoining public house, The Great O’ Neill – not bad for a fourth-generation family business that opened in 1942 as a one-room grocery shop.
Now owned and operated by Kerri O’ Neill and her parents Geraldine and Martin, the family is working with Deady Gahan Architects on the project.
