This hidden Cork city perfume shop is *the* place to hit if you’re craving a change

Drawn to the rare and the exquisite?
Tucked away inside one of Cork’s most charming shopping spots, the Winthrop Arcade, The Republic of Oud is a new luxury fragrance destination celebrating the world’s most precious perfume ingredient.
Oud, the most revered of all Arabian fragrances, comes from the resinous heartwood of agarwood trees. Because it’s rare and difficult to produce, it’s often called “liquid gold” in the fragrance world.

Owner Alan Coakley, a Cork native, fell in love with precious oud oils and fragrances while travelling in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Now back home in Cork, Alan is finally chasing a long-held dream: launching a boutique perfumery inspired by the traditions surrounding oud, and he has been working with master perfumers from Grasse and Dubai to bring it to life.
Oud is having a moment
It’s good timing too; everyone from Tom Ford to Dior are launching oud-based collections. It has even made its way into the wardrobes of stars like Drake (who wears Arabian Oud’s Kalemat), Angelina Jolie, and David Beckham.
Whether you’re treating yourself or someone special (a shopping visit to Republic of Oud would make a luxe little date or a special birthday surprise) you’re in good hands; the Cork boutique showcases exceptional brands including Arabian Oud, Ajmal, Areej Le Doré, Monreale, Kajal Perfumes Paris, and Sora Dora, offering Irish customers an exclusive opportunity to explore the artistry, storytelling, and cultural heritage of oud.
The current hero fragrance is Caspian Cherry by Electimuss London, a lavish blend of velvety almond liqueur, ripe black cherries, and bittersweet dark chocolate, evolving into spiced honey, plush coconut, and a shot of coffee.
Other dreamy options to try include Dahab by Kajal, a hypnotic blend of passion fruit, cedar, and sensual musk and Sora Dora’s YLOP, a heady blend of apricot roti, apple and tea.

Republic of Oud also offers tailored fragrance consultations and seasonal gifting edits to help shoppers mark life’s special moments.
“Our mission is to open people’s minds and noses to one of the world’s most incredible scent traditions.” Alan told us.
“Oud is more than perfume; it’s a cultural experience, and we’re proud to bring this to Ireland through a beautiful, welcoming space in Cork.”
