This is the best news.
Fab li’l Coachford bakery and café, The Boathouse is going mobile with the opening of its new project, a coffee box.
The Boathouse Bouy — named after owner ‘John The Boy’ — will be hitting the road the second week of February, bringing The Boathouse’s well-loved coffee and cakes across Cork.
John and Kiera Buckley are the creative masterminds behind the hugely popular The Boathouse, which opened on Coachford’s main street in July last year. The inspiration for The Boathouse’s name traces back to Kiera’s childhood days spent watching her grandfather and father craft boats in an old boat house.
“It was always a special place with maps of the lake and the smell of wood was just gorgeous,” she told Yay Cork.
“I always had an itch to start my own business, so I thought if I don’t do it now, I’ll never do it. I couldn’t think of a more fitting name being so far from home — Fermanagh — but also close to Inniscarra Lake, where we have world-class rowers and international fishing competitions.”
With the overwhelming support from the Coachford community since their cafe’s opening, the Buckleys felt the time was right to expand their horizons. Thus, The Boathouse Bouy was born.
Keep your eyes peeled as the pair test the waters for suitable locations for their coffee box at sporting events across Cork in the coming months and local beauty spots, serving up their award-winning cakes and signature brews.

It is also hoped to provide it for private hire such as weddings with John’s beloved vintage defender, which he also restored himself.
