If you thought a slice of grapefruit and a pinch of peppercorns was as fancy as it gets for your G&T, there’s a new must-have ingredient in town.
Fintan’s is a new local artisan drinks company that makes shrubs and tonics guaranteed to make any tipple extra special.
Handcrafted in small batches from a cottage kitchen below Póc an Tairbh (the Bull’s Pocket) in the mountains overlooking Bantry Bay in West Cork, Fintan’s comes in three varieties – and they are all outrageously good.
There’s Botanical Syrup No.1, a zesty citrus blend with juniper berries and lemongrass and spiced with genuine cinchona bark, fennel seeds and allspice.
Botanical Syrup No.2 is a classic, dry Indian-style tonic with grains of paradise for spicier, wood notes as well as pink grapefruit and sea salt. Lastly, the Blackberry & Lime Shrub is a refreshing grown-up soft drink made with cold-pressed fruits and live organic apple cider vinegar.
Let’s be clear; these are not cordials. Fintan’s Pamela Weaver concocted their first recipes after years of brewing beer, kombucha and kefir.
Currently available (€12 for ten or more servings) from Bradley’s on North Main Street Cork City and Manning’s Emporium in Ballylickey, West Cork, you can expect to see Fintan’s in more outlets soon.
As well as transforming G&Ts and cocktails, Fintan’s botanical syrups are also absolutely delicious on their own. Add 100mls to a glass of soda water for a grown-up, no-alcohol drink your house guests, pregnant pals and designated drivers will love.
