The River Lee is hosting an Old School (Virtual) Brunch with Stevie G

By Katie Mythen-Lynch May 7, 2020May 7, 2020

What we wouldn’t give to be heading out to brunch on Sunday.

Until Covid-19 restriction are lifted and it’s safe to head out en masse, however, we’re all for fun new ideas that break up the monotony of social distancing.

Now The River Lee Hotel is coming to the rescue, with a free fundraising brunch bash you can join in at home using this handy Twitch link.

The Old School Virtual Brunch with RedFM’s Stevie G takes place on Sunday, May 17th, 2020 from 2pm – 3pm and it’s all in aid of Cork Penny Dinners. The event is free and no registration is required, but an optional donation to Cork Penny Dinners is appreciated.

Here’s how it works: First, plan your menu. Will it be Eggs Benny, French toast or a full-on fry-up? Alert the chef or hit the supermarket for ingredients.

Next; open a bottle of bubbles or mix yourself one of the River Lee’s custom cocktails – here’s a recipe for the East 8 Hold-Up, a tasty tropical blend of vodka and Aperol:

Who tried their hand at The Cure Club cocktail recipe last weekend? This week, we have another one for you. The ultra-popular East 8 Hold-Up is a firm favourite in The River Club. Vodka, Aperol and tropical flavours takes you away to a sunny paradise (flavour-wise at least!) Try your hand at this one: Ingredients: 45ml Dingle Vodka 15ml Aperol Aperitivo 20ml Pineapple Juice 15ml Fresh Lime Juice 15ml Passion Fruit Juice Method: Assemble all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice Shake vigorously Pour through a strainer into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice Enjoy!

At 2pm on Sunday, May 17th, join in the party from your kitchen for an afternoon of R&B, soul and Motown classics, carefully curated by Mr Grainger himself.

“With chances to win prizes of brunch for two in The River Club, keep your eyes peeled to our social media channels for the details as we share cocktail recipes, brunch recipes and prompts to don your glad rags, all in aid of a great cause. Be sure to tag us in your photos on Instagram on the day for your chance to win!” says The River Lee’s Sinead McDonald.

“Cork Penny Dinners has been providing daily meals for those who need it most since 1888. Since the pandemic, they now need our help more than ever, so please, spare what you can and visit CorkPennyDinners.ie to donate via PayPal.”
