The historic Pavillion at Cork Cricket Club needs an urgent €50k repair job

By Yay Cork June 10, 2026June 9, 2026

One of Cork’s oldest sporting landmarks is facing a race against time.

The iconic Pavilion at the Mardyke — home to cricket in Munster since 1874 — is in urgent need of restoration, with severe roof leaks causing water damage that now threatens the future of the beloved building.

To save it, Cork County Cricket Club has launched a major fundraising campaign with a target of €50,000.

The “Raise the Roof” campaign will fund a two-phased restoration project. The first phase covers the immediate replacement of the entire roof structure to ensure it is watertight. The second phase addresses the internal damage caused, including water damage, ceiling repairs, damp treatment and a full interior restoration.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin visited the club on Saturday to cut the ribbon on the club’s recently refurbished Scorer’s Box.

Without the restoration of the roof, the club is faced with the prospect of the building being deemed unsafe to use. This will impact the use of facilities for players, members, and the wider Irish cricket community.

Robert Duggan, Chairperson for Cork County Cricket Club, said: “The Mardyke Pavilion is more than just a clubhouse; it’s a living piece of Cork’s sporting heritage. For 150 years, it has stood as a beacon for cricket, hosting countless matches, fostering young talent, and bringing generations together.

“To lose it would be to lose the soul of our club and a vital community asset.”
