The fastest-growing sport you may not have heard of just opened new courts in Cork

Hold onto your racquets y’all.
There’s a new game in town, and it’s got everyone talking.
Hailed as the world’s fastest-growing sport, padel tennis is now available in Carrigtwohill. It’s like a delicious blend of squash and tennis with a Spanish twist. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s about to become our new favourite sport.
Fota Junction Retail Park in Carrigtwohill is home to Ireland’s largest indoor Padel facility. And the best part? It’s a pay-per-play venue, so no membership is needed.

Mark White, Managing Director of Padel Tennis Ireland revealed that he was won over by the sport during trips in Spain.
Having worked in the racket sports industry for 13 years, he said the “buzz” for padel tennis was instant.
“Given we had a mixture of tennis and fitness abilities joining us on the trips, it was remarkable how quickly everyone was able to play competitive, yet social games of padel against each other — without having to worry about the complexities of technique compared to tennis,” he said.
When he returned to Ireland, the overwhelming consensus from his guests was that they wanted more padel and he found a “serious gap in the market” to provide it.
Now having filled the gap, Padel Tennis Ireland is open to all, suitable for people of all ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels. For fitness fanatics, Padel HIIT (Padel High-Intensity Interval Training), which are 60-minute sessions of padel exercises and cardiovascular workouts, will be launching soon. There are also court rental and catering options for kids and adult padel parties.
Want to give it a shot? Here’s what you need to know: It’s €40 for court hire from 7am – 4pm, Monday to Friday; and €45 from 5pm – 10pm, Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday. Padel hire and padel balls are also available to rent. You can book a court here.
