The Curraheen Walk and Cycleway is getting a facelift this week. Here’s what’s happening…

It’s a popular spot for walkers, joggers and cyclists.
Now Cork City Council is making some improvements that will ensure the Curraheen Walk and Cycleway is well prepared for a busy summer of visitors.
The project includes the resurfacing of pathways, the removal of the kissing gate at the Carrigrohane Bridge end and the provision of CCTV facilities and environmentally sensitive public lighting along the full extent of the pathways.
New signage and surface lining will also be added.
“The upgrade covers the existing path on the section from Curraheen Road bridge to the Model Farm Road (distance approx. 2600m) and from Model Farm Road to Carrigrohane Road. (distance approx. 1800m).” said a spokesperson for Cork City Council.

“The overall aim of the Scheme is to upgrade existing facilities to provide a high quality, attractive off-road transportation and recreational route. The site clearance work will include trimming vegetation in the vicinity of the proposed lighting and also the removal of some bushes and fallen or dead trees.”
The pathway will be kept open throughout the works but it will be necessary to close sections on a rolling basis during the upgrade.
Traffic management plans will be established to facilitate the safe movement of construction traffic and pedestrian signage will also be erected for the safety and convenience of pedestrians and cyclists. The pathway will be fully open at weekends.
