Gift shopping is better when you can feel good about your finds.

Excess packaging, throwaway decorations and plastic knick-knacks are out for Christmas 2019, but if you’re looking for ways to be more creative in repurposing stuff you already own, there’s an all-day event that’ll get you up to speed.

The duo behind Sustainable Fashion Dublin are en route to Cork, with an all-day festival of feel-good Christmas happenings, including a Conscious Christmas Flea Market, a Sustainabili-tea afternoon tea, and a DIY wrapping paper workshop.

The eco-friendly fun begins at noon on Sunday, December 8th, 2019 at The River Lee Hotel.

Here’s the schedule for the day:

• 12pm-5pm: Conscious Christmas Flea Market (free and open to the public)

Bring your roomiest bag-for-life and explore the locally-sourced, sustainable, and thrifty gifts you can give your loved ones this Christmas. The flea market will feature a wide range of stall traders, including individuals selling their own preloved gems, vintage collectors as well as local artisan and sustainable businesses. While some vendors will accept card payments, we recommend bringing cash.

• 1.30pm-3pm: “Sustainabili-tea” (ticketed, €45pp)

Spend an afternoon enjoying The River Lee’s decadent Modern Botany Afternoon Tea while learning about the easy changes you can make to ensure you have a more sustainable Christmas. Guests can expect “a range of exquisite top tier sweet treats and non-preachy chat with lots of laughs and ample opportunity for questions from the audience.” Each guest will also go home with an exclusive travel-size Modern Botany gift.

• 3.30pm-5pm: Conscious Christmas Workshop (ticketed, €10)

Repak reports that every Christmas, the population of Ireland generates upwards of 80,000 tonnes of packaging waste. Learning a few easy ways to reduce your waste this silly season can make a big impact. Everyone in the class will learn how to create your own personalised, handmade, incredibly-cute wrapping paper, with all materials, stencils and watercolours provided.
